Pearl of Wisdom Campaign to Prevent Cervical Cancer

CLUW has joined a coalition of women’s health and advocacy organizations in a new, united effort to prevent cervical cancer worldwide. The Pearl of Wisdom Campaign to Prevent Cervical Cancer will raise awareness of cervical cancer, encourage women to take advantage of the means that are now available to prevent it and work to make sure that these methods are accessible to girls and women around the globe – particularly to the underserved populations that have much higher rates of cervical cancer.

A central focus of the campaign is the promotion of the Pearl of Wisdom pin as the global symbol of cervical cancer prevention.

What you can do

Tell your friends, tell your family -- cervical cancer is one of the few types of cancer that can actually be prevented through vaccination and regular screening! Download the brochure at left.

What your union can do

1. Publish CLUW's articles in union magazines and websites:

2. Distribute Cervical Cancer Prevention Works brochures and mini-posters at your meetings. These materials are available at no cost for chapters and unions.
>> Order form (pdf)

3. Make certain HPV screening is covered in your state. See Women in Government 2009 State Report on Cervical Cancer Prevention.

Take the Pearl Pledge

"Take the Pearl Pledge" is the current Pearl of Wisdom promotion leading up to Mother's Day (May 9, 2010). In short, the pledge commits you to: scheduling your annual gynecologic examination, wearing a Pearl of Wisdom in support of cervical cancer prevention, and encouraging 5 friends to do the same.
