Q:
Does
CLUW offer help to those starting a chapter? |
A:
Yes, plenty. We send background information
about CLUW and step-by-step materials about how to form a
chapter to individuals or groups interested in starting a
new CLUW chapter. We also can help a new chapter make contact
with the local labor movement in their area, if they don't
already have a relationship. CLUW's national staff members
are always available to help "talk people through the
process" of starting a chapter.

Q:
What assistance
does the National CLUW Office provide to existing chapters? |
| |
A:
We provide our chapters with effective organizing
tools and timely information for national organizing projects,
such as Voice@Work, Working Women's Awareness Week, Equal
Pay Day, Take Your Child to Work Day, Voter Education and
Mobilization, and solidarity campaigns like Wal-Mart, Brylane,
and Delta. We also sponsor conferences in conjunction with
our National Executive Board meetings to educate, train and
take action on major issues, such as Social Security, privatization,
organizing, health issues (including breast cancer, depression,
and stress) and family issues.

Q:
How can chapters
initiate their own local programs? |
| |
A:
Many program suggestions will surface from
discussions about important local concerns affecting union
folk in your area, issues that CLUW can work on with our allies
in the community and the labor movement. Other ideas might
evolve from developing and distributing a questionnaire to
new members. You also can contact the National CLUW office
for information on what other chapters are doing and their
creative tactics to boost participation in CLUW activities.

Q:
How does
CLUW retain members? |
| |
A:
Because membership renewals are the lifeblood
of CLUW, the National CLUW office sends renewal notices to
members, reminding them to renew their national membership
each year. Similarly, each chapter also should regularly remind
its members to renew their local chapter membership, which
makes planned activities viable.

Q:
Are chapters
required to use union vendors? |
| |
A:
Each chapter must
use union vendors when purchasing services, such as printing.
If labor is donated, it should be acknowledged on the item printed.
Also, chapters should patronize unionized hotels when they host
events in hotels. |
