Recruitment:

Always have CLUW membership cards and/or brochures available. A good tip for effective recruitment is to personally collect the completed membership cards that you have handed out. Tell each person whom you've given a membership card that you will collect the card from him or her and send it in for them. That way you have real results to show for your hard work.

Union Label Principle:

Each chapter must use union shops when purchasing services such as printing. If labor is donated, it should be acknowledged on the item printed. Also, when chapters hold events in hotels, union hotels should be patronized.

Geographical areas:
Chapters may cover metropolitan areas, counties, or groups of counties. It is important to consider travel time for members. Most chapters decide their jurisdiction according to the geographical standards of the central labor council in their area.

Meetings:
Sometime it's necessary to rotate the location of membership meetings to accommodate more members.

Parliamentary Authority:
Refer to the National CLUW Constitution on procedures for chapter functioning and parliamentary authority. When the Constitution is silent, authority is Robert's Rules of Order (most recent revised addition).

Chapter
Treasury:

All chapters are required to set up a chapter account. A booklet is available from the National Office, Guidelines for Chapter Treasuries. As mandated by the Constitution, all CLUW expenditures must be handled by check. All checks are required to have two (2) signatures. That means the chapter account should have another signature besides the Chapter President.

Membership
renewals:
Each year members need to renew their national and local chapter membership. Membership renewals are very important to the lifeblood of the chapter and the chapter Treasury. Make sure accurate records are kept, so renewal notices are sent out. The National CLUW Office sends out renewal notices to members reminding them to renew their national membership.
