The CLUW 21st Biennial Convention opened with a beautiful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” sung by elementary school student, Lily Mueller followed by a lovely rendition of “O Canada” by high school student, Grace Liu. AFL-CIO President, Liz Shuler fired up the delegates with a brilliant keynote address followed by greetings from AFGE National Vice President, Jeremy Lannan and IAM General Secretary-Treasurer, Dora Cervantes. Over 350 Delegates joined us on ZOOM for the Opening Day.
U.S. Representative Katie Porter gave a energized presentation on upcoming legislation that impact that lives of women and families. We enjoyed delightful video presentations by our CLUW chapters and we’re led in song and meditation by Lynn Marie Smith.
We pleased and honored to have AFT Secretary-Treasurer Emerita, Dr. Loretta Johnson as our parliamentarian and closed the day with delegate elections in our union caucuses.
