Embracing its mission to enhance the value of union membership and support a stronger labor movement, Union Privilege has developed a Union Leaders of the Future Scholarship to help more women and people of color become union leaders. This new program provides annual awards up to $3,000 to help future leaders with the cost of continuing their education to pursue their union career goals and leadership skills.

The annual Union
Women Summer Schools are sponsored by the United
Association for Labor Education (UALE), in cooperation
with the AFL-CIO and CLUW. At these programs union women learn
and hone skills, receive new information, enthusiastically
learn and sing labor songs and network with union sisters
from across their respective region.
Below are the 2009 Summer Schools:
- The 34th Annual Northeast Regional Summer
School for Union Women is August 2-7 at SUNY Stonybrook, in Stonybrook, NY. Coordinator: Debra Bergen, DBergen@pscmail.org.
- The 28th Annual Western Regional Summer Institute on Union Women will be held August 11 - 15 at UCLA DeNeve Plaza. Coordinator: Lanita Morris, lmorris@irle.ucla.edu.

- The Midwest School for Working Women will be held on the Bloomington campus, Indiana University on August 16-19, 2009. Coordinator: Marquita Walker, marqwalk@iupui.edu.
- The Southern School for Union Women will take place at the Scarrit Bennett Center in Nashville, Tennessee, August 27- 30. Coordinator: Catherine Sutton, csutton@mtsu.edu, Assistant Director, Tennessee Center for Labor-Management Relations, Middle Tennessee State University.
Michigan Summer School for Women Workers
The 2009 Michigan Summer School for Women Workers will be held July 23-26
at the Kellogg Center
in East Lansing, Michigan. Open to all workers, union members, and leaders from a variety of workplaces, jobs, and unions. Learn together about new ideas, strategies, and skills to meet the needs and challenges facing workers in our ever-changing workplaces. |
