Subject: Education Scholarships

Once again, we are excited to offer ten (10) - $500 labor education scholarships for the 2002 school year! This is due to the ongoing support of the AFL-CIO since 1998. The purpose of this scholarship program is to offer financial support and encouragement to CLUW members seeking to advance their skills, knowledge and leadership in the labor movement.

The following describes what we are offering and the criteria for applying:

  • Ten $500 scholarships will be granted to CLUW members who are pursuing labor union studies in 2002* Each scholarship will be paid directly to the school chosen by the recipient.

  • Eligibility: Only CLUW members are eligible without regard to sex, race, color, ethnicity, age, religion, marital or family status, sexual orientation or disability although geographic diversity will be one consideration when selecting the final awardees. Candidates must be working full or part-time and provide proof of having been accepted to a labor studies program.

  • Where: Members from all fifty states are encouraged to apply.

  • When: Application period December 17, 2001 - January 18, 2002.

Members are asked to send an application and an essay (up to 300 words) on how their course work is related to achieving one or more of CLUW's four goals: 1. Organizing; 2. Increasing the participation of women in unions; 3. Increasing participation in political and legislative action and 4. Effecting affirmative action.

We ask for your help in distributing this notice to CLUW members and the local unions in your community to publicize scholarship program.



Labor courses include, but are but are not limited to, organizing, mobilizing, bargaining, education, community services, writing, publication, women's studies, new technologies, political, legislative or legal action.
