  • CLUW 22nd Biennial Convention Summary and Video
    Updated On: Jan 02, 2024

CLUW members and observers were proud to participate in the 22nd Biennial Convention held in Minneapolis, MN from November 9-12 under the theme of “Hear Us Roar: Ready for 2024”.  They heard from inspiring speakers such as AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler; US Representative (MN) Ilhan Omer and Claude Cummings Jr., President, Communications Workers of America and their first African American president. About 300 members registered for the convention, and they considered 27 resolutions and constitutional amendments that set the direction and improved internal functioning for CLUW for the next 2 years. Resolutions covered topics such as "Building Up CLUW” that addressed increasing CLUW membership, "Focus on Maternal Health Care and Reproductive Health ", "Labor Will Lead the Transition To Climate-Safe Economy" and "Childcare Now" to name a few. You can find more information on another adopted resolution on “Diplomacy, not Militarism” under the “Ceasefire Now” article on this homepage.

President Elise Bryant opened the program by introducing a Parade of Banners carried by CLUW members from various unions. Participants were treated to songs throughout by the CLUW Chorus/Cheer Team and by the Motown Diva, Lynn Marie Smith (CLUW member).   The convention included panels on a variety of subjects, including Reproductive Rights, and ended with a celebratory gala.

The video included in this article gives you a snapshot of who was there, what they thought and some of the speakers who participated. Much thanks to CLUW and SAG-AFTRA member Tanya Hutchins for the video design.

An article with more convention details will be coming out soon, so please check back.
