  • Hands Off Event - April 5, 2025
    Updated On: Apr 03, 2025

CLUW is very proud to endorse the Hands Off actions happening throughout the United States and other countries this Saturday, April 5th. We hope you will join one. CLUW's President Elise Bryant remarked, "CLUW’s mission is more important than ever. With continued attacks on unions—and especially on women—by the current administration, we need to rise, organize, and stand together with workers everywhere!"

The issues included in the posters here are only two that will be highlighted on April 5th.  Here are some of the reasons we chose them: According to kff.org "More than half of all people with Medicare are women, including more than 31 million ages 65 and older and about 4 million under age 65 with long-term disabilities. Medicare plays a key role in supporting the health and well-being of women, covering a broad range of services essential to women’s health, including preventive, reproductive, primary, and specialty care, and prescription drugs."

In 2024, the unionization rate for women was unchanged over the year at 9.5 percent, and the number of women who were union members changed little at 6.6 million (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics), but in January 2025, Black women were 1.6 times more likely to be unemployed than White women, down from 2.1 times in January 2020 (according to the Institute for Women's Policy Research). Among full-time workers aged 16 and older, women represented by labor unions earn an average of $212, or 30.9 percent, more per week than women in nonunion jobs. (https://statusofwomendata.org/).

We hope this information has helped reinforce why your presence on April 5th is so important. Please check out this link for general information https://handsoff2025.com/about and this to register and find a location for an event near you https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/. Forward pictures to the national office. See 'ya in the streets!!
