    Join CLUW at the Upcoming Women’s Leadership Skills Conference, National Executive Board Meeting and Working Women’s Award Celebration

    The CLUW National Executive Board will be meeting on May 3, 2018 at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center, 10000 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20903.  All CLUW members (including those who are not members of the NEB) are welcome to attend the board meeting as observers. See Tentative Agenda for the NEB, SNAP: Sisters Not Afraid of Power Conference and Working Women’s Award Celebration.

    The NEB meeting is being held in conjunction with a two and a half day Women’s Leadership Skills Conference taking place April 30 thru May 2. The conference program is designed to give union women skills so they can play a prominent role in their unions, CLUW chapters and their communities. The training will include plenary sessions as well as Effective Leadership Training Sessions that will include Know Your Constitution and Finances, Preparing Agendas and Running a Meeting and Organizing and Outreach.  Several sessions will run simultaneously and have similar content. You will be assigned a session on-site.  See Overview and Descriptions here. ALL CLUW CHAPTER MEMBERS SHOULD BRING COPIES OF THEIR CHAPTER BY-LAWS TO THE CONFERENCE. CHECK WITH YOUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT IF YOU DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A COPY.

    The Conference Package: $150 includes conference, materials, lunch and snack breaks for the 2 full conference days.

    On Friday, May 4th the Working Women’s Award Celebration will take place at AFL-CIO Headquarters in Washington, DC followed by a rally focusing on the needs of working women.  More information will be available soon.

    Housing: The CLUW room rate at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center is $139 single and $189 double plus applicable taxes in effect at check-in, currently 6% MD sales tax and 7% occupancy tax per night.

    The Room Reservation Deadline is April 17th and shoud be made directly with the Tommy Douglas Conference Center by calling 240.645.4000 or E-mail:

    guestservices@tommydouglascenter.com (Group Code: 2018 CLUW NEB).

    A deposit by check or credit card equal to one-night’s room rate is due with each reservation. Failure to cancel a guaranteed reservation at least 48 hours prior to arrival of the reservation will result in forfeiture of advance deposit or one night's room and tax billed to the credit card.

    The conference center is a deluxe dormitory style with free wireless in guest rooms and public space and access to fitness center and free self-parking available. Check-in is after 3:00 pm and check-out is before 11:00 am.

    The cafeteria at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center will be available during the program. Meals not included in the conference fee will be offered, but credit cards will be accepted as the only form of payment.  The Lounge is also open for beverages and light fare in the evenings (check the times at check-in).
